England and Durham cricketer
BEN STOKES
visited the range recently, seen here with range owner Chris Pope - to try out some new clubs.
It was very interesting to see that he hits a golf ball nearly as far as a cricket ball!

A Great Comment from One of Our Members about Sunderland Golf Centre
''At my place 83p for 25 or 50 during happy hour, which is 9.00 to 11.00 weekdays & 5.00 to 6.00 weekends, provided you top up your card with 1,500 balls for £50. Decent quality balls & great mats. Happy hour is like a retirees' social club. Go there, hit a few balls, have a coffee & a chat.
I can spend most of the morning there. It's attached to an American Golf, but run separately, so I can browse the stock while I'm there too.
I'm there most mornings if I'm not playing.''

SUNDERLAND GOLF CENTRE - DRIVING RANGE ASSISTANT MAIN DUTIES
- Serving customers in the kiosk and assisting with ball delivery
- Cleaning and tidying duties listed on ‘daily jobs’
- Preparing and washing golf balls using machines in garage – sometimes manually
- Cleaning, filling and maintaining hot and cold drinks machines
- Basic routine computer work whilst working in the kiosk
- Patrolling the range periodically to ensure tidiness, safe behaviour and collecting balls
There may be times when manual or mechanically driven ball collecting is required in the event of holidays or sickness
This is a small business employing 6 part time staff and whilst 2 of those staff have more specific ‘garage/outside’ work,
range assistants need to be available and able to do all aspects.
Whilst the business will try and accommodate employee availability issues it will operate a shift system which will adjust slightly each March and October when the clocks change and hours of business change accordingly.
Employees should understand that evening work and some weekend hours will be essential.
This is not an exhaustive list. For the majority of the time, staff doing this job work alone.
For their own security and that of the business they need to be vigilant of intruders/unruly or disruptive behaviour and unfortunately may need to eject offenders.
There are some aspects of the jobs which are strenuous, particularly lifting trays of balls and washing
when the golf balls are dirty.
